In the 16th century, the Vasa kings renovated and modernized the castle, with much of its original appearance remaining from 1592. Kalmar County Museum

Kalmar Cathedral


Kalmar Cathedral, situated on Stortorget, is a remarkable example of Baroque architecture, completed in 1703. Designed by Nikodemus Tessin the Elder, the cathedral is home to a magnificent Baroque altar crafted by his son, Nicodemus Tessin the Younger.


The oldest feature inside is the mid-17th-century pulpit, making this cathedral one of the most significant landmarks of the Swedish Empire.


The Krusenstierna Garden


The Krusenstierna Garden, a beautifully preserved 1800s city garden located in the Old Town, is open to visitors from May to September. Once owned by the Krusenstierna family, the garden was donated to the city and now offers a peaceful retreat with flower beds, a café, and a small museum showcasing the main building's history. Various events are held throughout the year in this charming setting.


A World of Dinosaurs


For those interested in prehistoric life, A World of Dinosaurs in Kalmar offers Europe's largest exhibition of dinosaurs, continuously expanding each year. With over 200 dinosaurs and skeletons, including life-size, animatronic models that move, breathe, and roar, this exhibition provides an exciting experience for visitors of all ages. It is open from May to October.
